Dana Barooshian
Career Summary
Mr. Barooshian is a forensic accountant with over 20 years professional experience performing financial and compliance audits, internal control evaluations, risk assessments, and financial consulting engagements for a diverse group of independent federal agencies, charters schools, nonprofit organizations and commercial entities. After early career experiences with competitive intelligence, private investigation and investigative reporting, he entered public accounting in 1996 and became a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Internal Controls Auditor, and developed specialized knowledge and experience with the federal government financial reporting, internal control and compliance requirements, as well as charters school finances and federal education program compliance requirements. Audit & Assurance Experience
- Managed over 50 audit engagements for independent federal agencies, included White House Travel Office, Panama Canal Commission, Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, Medicare Payment Advisory Commission and several other respected independent federal agencies.
- Managed over 30 charter school audits, requiring extensive knowledge of internal control and compliance requirements for federal education, child nutrition and career and technical training grants.
- Conducted detailed internal control reviews of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, both Fortune 50 companies at the time, on behalf of US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Developed specialized forensic and audit methodologies for assessing accuracy and completeness of affordable housing goals data reported to HUD, which included financial and non-financial data. Engagement included working with GSE internal audit and risk management departments.
- Managed emergency audit of Air Force One invoices and travel manifests to respond to Congressional subpoena for Hillary Clinton’s travel activities

Fraud Examination and Due Diligence Experience
- Conducted an investigation of asset misappropriation, embezzlement and money laundering for the principal of a nationally known manufacturing company from a Caribbean nation. Our use of financial reconstruction techniques produced sufficient evidence to expose the malfeasance.
- Conducted an investigation of a major coffee retailer and its owner as part of a divorce case. Lifestyle audits, tracing interlocking ownership and money trails were all used to uncover hidden assets and sources of income.
- Conducted undercover operations in several major bars and restaurants to identify employee theft.
- Conducted undercover field investigations for law firm of a major boxing promoter to gather evidence and prepare affidavits relating to unlawful descrambling and showing of pay-per-view fights without payment of proper royalties.
- Conducted investigation of a manufacturers' representative during period of contract renegotiation and uncovered evidence of misrepresentation, false statements, unlawful diversion of business and self-dealing that were instrumental to our client.
